AT THE THEATRE

After leaving Jiminy, Pinocchio went to Stromboli’s theatre with the swindler Honest John. Stromboli is addressing the audience. He is introducing Pinocchio.

S ( Stromboli): Now I am presenting to you something unbelievable. He is a puppet but he can sing and dance without strings. Here is Pinocchio.

Jiminy is also at the theatre. He is watching. He is angry.

And then Pinocchio appears on the stage. She stumbles and falls on the stage. Everybody is laughing at him. Jiminy is angry.

J: Go on. Make a fool of yourself.

But then Pinocchio sings and dances and people like it. They applaud Pinocchio and throw coins on the stage because they admire him. Pinocchio is happy. Stromboli is filled with joy because he is making a lot of money. Jiminy is surprised.

J: Hmm, they like him. Maybe I was wrong. Well, I guess he won’t need me anymore.

Then he leaves the theatre, indignant.

AT GEPPETTO’S

It is dinner time but Geppetto is worried because Pinocchio hasn’t come back yet.

G: Where could he be at this hour? I’d better go out again and look for him.

And he goes out to look for Pinocchio.

STROMBOLI

Stromboli is in his caravan. He is having dinner and counting his money. He is also singing. He is very happy.

S (Stromboli): Bravo Pinocchio.

P: They like me.

S: Yes. You are great.

P: So, am I an actor?

S: Sure. I will make you famous.

P: Good. I will go home and tell my father.

S: Home?

P: Yes. I will be back here in the morning.

Stromboli is furious (=very angry). He shuts him up in a bird’s cage.

S: We will tour the world. Paris, London, İstanbul. And you will make lots of money for me. Then, when you are too old, you will make good fire-wood.

P: No, no. I want to go home; let me out.

Jiminy is outside the caravan. He is sad. He thinks that Pinocchio is rich and happy and that he doesn’t want him.

J: I’ll just go out of his life quietly.

But then he decides to see Pinocchio and say good bye to him.

J: I would like to wish him luck.

Then he jumps into the caravan.

J: Hello Pinocchio. It’s me, your old friend. Remember?

P: Oh, Jiminy. I’m glad (=happy) to see you.

J: But, what happened to you? Why are you in that cage?

And Pinocchio tells him what happened.

J: Oh, don’t worry. I’ll get you out of the cage in no time at all.

Then he jumps into the lock. But he can’t undo it.

J: I think it is rusty.

Pinocchio is regretful. He is crying.

P: I should have listened to you, Jimmy. I should have gone to school.

J: Oh, take it easy, son. Don’t cry. Come on.

Just then they see the Blue Fairy coming. Pinocchio panics because he is ashamed.

P: Oh, what will I tell her?

J: Tell her the truth.

Now Blue Fairy is inside the caravan.

F: Why didn’t you go to school, Pinocchio?

P: Well, I was going to school till I met somebody.

F: Somebody?

P: Yeah. Two big monsters.

Then Pinocchio’s nose grows because this is a lie.

F: Weren’t you afraid of the monsters?

P: No. They tied me in a big sack.

Then the nose grows again.

F: And where was Jiminy?

P: Jiminy? Well, they put him in a little sack.

The nose grows bigger. It looks like the branch of a tree and there is a bird nest at the end of it.

P: My nose? What has happened?

F: Perhaps you haven’t been telling the truth, Pinocchio?

P: Oh, I have told you the truth. Every single word.

Then his nose grows even bigger.

P: Please help me. I am terribly sorry.

F: Well, you see Pinocchio. A lie keeps growing and growing until it is as plain as the nose on your face.

P: I’ll never lie again.

J: Please forgive him for my sake.

F: I’ll forgive you this once. But remember, this is the last time I can help you.

Then Pinocchio and Jiminy, his conscience, leave the caravan.

THE SWINDLERS

Honest John and Gideon are at an inn, drinking and singing. John is talking to the coachman. He is talking about Pinocchio.

HJ: And he believed us and he still thinks we are his friends. Ha ha ha. And Stromboli paid us plenty.

C (Coachman): Would you like to make real money?

HJ: Well. For what? Who do we have to kill?

C: I’m collecting stupid little boys.

HJ: Stupid little boys?

C: Yes, those who escape from school. I take them to Pleasure Island. They never come back. Tonight I am going to the island. Meet me at the crossroads. Bring a boy and I will give you money.

PINOCCHIO GOING HOME?

Pinocchio and Jiminy are on the way home. Pinocchio looks determined and serious.

P: I will be a good boy. I will go to school. Nothing can stop me now.

J: I hope so. Let’s race home.

And they begin to run. Pinocchio is behind. Suddenly Honest John appears and stops Pinocchio.

HJ: Hello Pinocchio. What is your rush?

P: I gotta beat Jiminy home.

HJ: You have become a great actor, right?

P: I don’t want be an actor.

HJ: Why not?

P: I learnt my lesson.

HJ: Oh poor boy. You must be a nervous wreck (=you have serious psychological problems).

Then Honest John pretends to be a doctor. He examines Pinocchio and then he says,

HJ: You are allergic. And there is only one cure: A vacation on the Pleasure Island.

P: But I can’t go.

HJ: Of course you can. I am giving you my ticket. You have to go. Your health comes first.

So, Honest John persuades Pinocchio to go to the Pleasure Island.

Pinocchio Part I

Once upon a time, an old toymaker, called Geppetto, lived in a small town. His cat, Figaro, his fish, Cleo, and his toys were his friends. He loved one toy more than the others. It was a puppet. He called it Pinocchio and loved it like a son.

One night, before he went to bed, he saw a wishing star and he was very excited:

G: Oh, Figaro! Look, look! The wishing star!

And he made a wish:

G: I wish that my little Pinocchio might be a real boy.

And then he goes to bed and falls asleep, thinking of his wish.

Jiminy Cricket is also in the house. He wants to sleep, too. But he can’t sleep because the sounds of the clocks and snoring of Geppetto disturb him. Suddenly he sees a light coming into the house. He is afraid and hides in a cup. Now he is watching what is going on:

A fairy appears inside the house. She turns to Geppetto and says,

F: Good Geppetto, you have given so much happiness to others. You deserve to have your wish come true.

Then she turns to Pinocchio and touches it with her magic wand:

F: Little puppet, wake, the gift of life is yours.

Then Pinocchio is alive. He sees his hands moving and he is very surprised:

P: I can move.

Then he notices that he is talking and he is surprised again.

P: I can talk.

And he stands up and he is surprised once more because he sees that he can walk.

P: I can walk!

F: Yes Pinocchio. I have given you life.

P: Why?

F: Because tonight, Geppetto wished for a real boy.

P: A real boy! Am I a real boy?

F: NO! But you can be a real boy. It is up to you.

F: Prove yourself. Be brave, truthful and unselfish, and someday you will be a real boy.

P: A real boy!

F: You must learn to choose between right and wrong.

P: Right and wrong? But how will I know?

F: Your conscience will tell you.

P: What is conscience?

Jiminy appears.

J: Conscience is that small voice inside you. It tells you what is right and what is wrong. When you do wrong, it warns you. But people don’t listen to it.

P: Are you my conscience?

J (surprised): No, I am not.

F: Would you like to be Pinocchio’s conscience?

J: Uh, well.

Then the fairy touches Jiminy with the magic wand;

F: Now you are Pinocchio’s conscience. You will help him when there is temptation. You will be his guide along the straight and narrow path.

F (to Pinocchio): Now, remember, Pinocchio, be a good boy. And always let your conscience be your guide.

P: Good bye my lady.

Now, Jiminy and Pinocchio are alone. Jiminy wants to teach Pinocchio.

J: Now, you see, the world is full of temptations.

P: Temptations?

J: Yep. Temptations are the wrong things that seem right at the time.

Pinocchio doesn’t understand him but he says,

P: I’m gonna (=going to) do right.

J: and I’m gonna help you. Whenever you need me, just whistle.

While singing and dancing, Pinocchio steps into two buckets and falls down. He causes a lot of noise and wakes up Geppetto.

G: Who is there?

P: It’s me.

Then Geppetto is very afraid. He gets out of the bed. He takes a candle and begins to look for the stranger in the room. Then Pinocchio appears.

P: Here I am.

G: Oh… Pinocchio. But this can’t be real. I think I am dreaming in my sleep.

Geppetto can’t believe it. He pours a whole jug of water on himself. Then he goes back to Pinocchio.

G: Well, say something.

P: You are funny. Do it again.

G: You talk. This is real.

P: Yes, the Blue Fairy came. She gave me life. She also gave me a conscience. Someday I am going to be a real boy.

Now Geppetto believes. He is very happy.

G: A real boy. It was my wish. It has come true.

Then he shows Pinocchio to Figaro and Cleo. He is filled with joy. He is walking and dancing in the room. Then leaves Pinocchio on the table and begins to gather toys for him. Pinocchio plays with the fire of the candle. Then he burns his finger. But it doesn’t hurt him. However, when Geppetto sees that his finger is burning, he panics and takes Pinocchio in his arms, and runs about the room, looking for water. Then he dips Pinocchio’s burning finger into the aquarium.

Then they go to bed.

G: Now, close your eyes and go to sleep.

P: Why?

G: Oh, everybody has to sleep. Besides, tomorrow, you have got to go to school.

P: Why?

G: To learn things and get smart.

Then they fall asleep.

*******************************

TOMORROW MORNING

School children are going to school. Pinocchio hears them and he gets out of the house. He is very excited. He wants to join the children.

P: Oh, father. Who are those?

G: They are your schoolmates (=school friends)

Then Geppetto gives him an apple and a book and sends him to school.

P: Good bye father.

G: Good bye son. Hurry back.

*********************

Two swindlers, Honest John and his friend Gideon are walking on the street. They see school boys running to school.

HJ: Look Gideon. Innocent children are rushing to school. It is a fountain of knowledge and these children have thirsty little minds.

Then he sees Pinocchio running.

HJ: Look Giddy, look! Amazing. A wooden boy! A live puppet without strings. If we sell him to someone, we can make a fortune.

Then he sees a poster on the wall. It is a poster of Stromboli’s puppet show. Honest John thinks he can sell the wooden boy to Stromboli. Then they follow Pinocchio along the street. Then Honest John causes Pinocchio to fall down with his cane.

HJ: Oh, I am terribly sorry. I hope you are not injured.

P: I am alright.

HJ: Where are you going, boy?

P: I am going to school.

HJ: School? Then you haven’t heard of the easy road to success.

P: No.

HJ: Bright lights, applause, fame. You will be famous. You are a natural-born actor.

P: But I am going to school.

HJ: No. You are wasting your time. Come. Let’s go to the theatre.

Pinocchio believes him. Then they walk to the theatre. On the way, however, Jiminy finds them. He understands that the two men are swindlers and that they are leading Pinocchio astray. He follows and catches them. Then he talks to Pinocchio.

P: Hello Jiminy. I am going to be an actor.

J: Now listen to me boy. Do you remember temptation?

P: Yes I do.

J: Well, that man (Honest John) is temptation.

P: Oh no Jiminy. He is a good man. He is helping me.

J: No. You can’t go with him. Now tell him “Thank you but I can’t go with you.”becausebut you have got to go to school.

P: OK.

Then Pinocchio goes up to Honest John.

P: Good bye Jiminy.

J: Good bye. But you are not going to school! Where are you going? Stop Pinocchio. Well, what am I going to tell his father? Well, I will go after him myself.

Sleeping Beauty Part VII

Now everyone in the castle –except the three fairies- is happy. They all think the spell is broken because it is Aurora’s 16th birthday and the sun has set. They are celebrating it and waiting for the princess to come.

The fairies are in the balcony. They see the celebrations and they are crying.

Fauna: Poor King Stefan and the Queen.

Merryweather: They’ll be heartbroken when they find out.

Flora: They’re not going to (be heartbroken).

Merryweather: They aren’t?

Flora: We’ll put them all to sleep, until Rose awakens (=wakes up). Come!

They fly around the castle and put everyone to sleep so that they will not be heartbroken. Before falling asleep, Hubert talks to Flora.

Hubert: Philip has fallen in love with some peasant girl.

Flora: A peasant girl? Who is she? Where did he meet her?

Hubert: Once upon a dream.

Flora understands that it is Aurora, that Prince Philip has fallen in love with Aurora.

Flora (to the other fairies): Come on, we’ve got to get back to the cottage!

Flora has a good plan. She knows that the prince will go to the cottage to meet Aurora as he thinks that she is waiting for him there. Flora is going to get the prince and come back with him to the castle. Then the prince will kiss the princess and the spell will be broken. (Only true love’s kiss can break the spell)

But Maleficent is not a fool. She knows that the spell can be broken if the prince kisses the princess. So she is at the cottage, waiting for him. Then the prince comes to the cottage and she entraps him and takes him to her own castle. She imprisons him in a dungeon.

Now Maleficent and her servants are celebrating her victory.

Maleficent: (talking to her raven) What a pity prince Phillip can’t be here to enjoy the celebration. Come, we must go to the dungeon and cheer him up.

Then she goes down to the dungeon to talk to the princess. She will make fun of him.

In the meantime, the fairies go to the cottage. They can’t find the prince but they understand that Maleficent has entrapped him. So they also come to the castle. Now they want to find the prince. They are following Maleficent.

Maleficent: Oh come now, prince Phillip. Why so melancholy? A wondrous future lies

before you. You are the hero of a charming fairy tale.

Now she shows him King Stefan’s castle.

Maleficent: Look at that castle. There is a beautiful girl in it. She is sleeping. She is the peasant girl that you met in the forest yesterday. In fact, she is the princess, your betrothed. A hundred years later I will set you free. I will let you go. You will be a very old man. Then you will go to the castle and kiss her. And then you will live happily ever after. Ha ha ha.

The three fairies are watching them through the window. When Maleficent leaves, they go in, break the chains, and set the prince free. Then they give him a shield and a sword. But the raven sees them. It starts screaming. Maleficent’s soldiers hear it. They run into the dungeon. The fairies and the prince run to the other side. They get out of the dungeon. The soldiers are throwing stones and arrows at them. But the fairies turn them into bubbles and flowers. The raven is still screaming and it is going to Maleficent to wake her. Merryweather is very angry with it. She follows the raven and turns it into a stone raven. Now Maleficent hears the noise, wakes up, and comes out. She sees the prince and the fairies escaping. She throws two spells but she can’t stop them. The prince is riding to the castle. Maleficent is very angry. She flies toward the castle and stands on the prince’s way. She transforms (=changes) herself into a huge (=very very big) dragon. Then the fight starts. The dragon is very big and powerful. It spits fire. But the prince is brave. He throws his sword at the dragon and it hits her on the heart. The dragon dies.

*********

The prince and the fairies get inside the castle. They go up the tower where Aurora is sleeping. The prince kisses her and she wakes up.

Other people in the castle also wake up. The Kings Stefan and Hubert resume their talk as if nothing has happened.

Stefan: Well, what were you saying?

Hubert: I was saying that we are living in the 14th century.

Then Aurora and Phillip appear arm in arm, walking downstairs. The fairies are watching them from the balcony.

THE END

Sleeping Beauty Part V

AT THE CASTLE

King Stefan and King Hubert. They are talking.

Stefan: No sign of her yet.

Hubert is very cheerful. He is eating all the time.

Hubert: Of course not. We have half an hour till sunset.

He sees that Stefan is worried.

Hubert: Oh now, come on, wake up, battle’s over, girl’s almost here.

Stefan: I am sorry Hubert. After waiting for her for sixteen years…

Hubert: Stop worrying about it. It is all in the past.

Hubert claps his hands. The servant arrives with a bottle of wine.

Hubert: Tonight, we toast to future

He fills two glasses.

Hubert: Here, to the future!

Stefan: Right, Hubert, to the future!

Now they are both happy and singing.

Our children will marry

Our kingdoms unite

Hubert: Let’s drink to the new home. It is bigger than a palace in Rome.

Stefan: New home?

Hubert: Yes, our children will need a new nest. Here are the plans: Well, what do you think? It is not very big, of course. Forty bedrooms, Dining hall.

Stefan: Are you building it?

Hubert: I have already built it. It is ready. Now, let’s drink to the wedding.

Stefan: Wedding? Aurora knows nothing about this. It may come as a shock to her.

Hubert (angry): Shock? My son Philip a shock? Your daughter doesn’t want my son? Then my son doesn’t want your daughter. And my grandchildren don’t want you for a grandfather.

Then Hubert grabs a fish and uses it like a sword. Stefan grabs a tray to defend himself. He uses the tray like a shield. The two kings fight for a while. Then they start laughing.

Hubert: I am sure the children will fall in love with each other.

Then Prince Philip is announced. Hubert runs down to meet him.

Hubert: Hurry boy. Change into something suitable. You can’t meet your bride in these clothes.

Phillip: Well, I have met her, father.

Hubert: You met Princess Aurora?

Philip: No. She was a peasant girl.

Hubert: A peasant g-g-girl? You’re going to marry a … Why Phillip, you’re joking! You’re a prince, and you’re going to marry a princess!

Phillip: Now father, you’re living in the past. This is the fourteenth century. Nowadays …

Hubert: Nowadays I’m still the king, and I command you to come to your senses.

Phillip: … and marry the girl I love.

Hubert: Exactly!

Phillip: Goodbye, father!

He rides off.

Hubert: Goodbye, father! Marry the girl you … No, no, Phillip, stop, come back, hold Phillip! Phillip! Oh, how will I ever tell Stefan?

PART VI

The fairies and Aurora go to the castle. Secretly they go into a room.

Flora: Lock the door, Merryweather! Fauna, pull the drapes! We have one last gift for you, dear child. It is the symbol of your royalty. It is your right and duty to wear it.

The fairies set the crown on her head. Aurora again breaks into tears.

Then the fairies leave the room and leave her alone because there is a problem (Aurora is unhappy) and they want to discuss it.

Merryweather: I don’t see why she has to marry any old prince.

Fauna: Now, that’s not for us to decide, dear.

Inside Aurora’s room, a green ball of light appears. Aurora sees it and walks toward the light. Then a door is opened through the fireplace. The light goes through the door and upstairs. Aurora follows the light. She is hypnotized. The fairies are still outside the room. Then Flora hears a sound and she understands that it is Maleficent. They run into the room. They see Aurora going through the door. They call her but she doesn’t hear them. They follow her but the fireplace wall reappears (the door disappears). The fairies can’t follow Aurora. Then they use magic and open the door. But there are multiple ways on the other side and they don’t know which one to follow. They start looking for her. All this while, Aurora is walking upstairs after the green ball of light. Then the ball of light turns into a spinning wheel; it stands before her. She walks toward the spinning wheel. She is going to touch it. The fairies cry: Don’t touch anything. Aurora stops for a moment. But she hears Maleficent: Touch the spindle!

And Aurora touches the spinning wheel!

Then the fairies find her but it is too late.

Maleficent: You poor simple fools. Thinking you could defeat me. I am the mistress of all evil. Well, here’s your precious princess.

The fairies see that Aurora is lying on the ground. Then Maleficent disappears, laughing.

Flora: Oh Rose! Oh, I’ll never forgive myself.

Fauna: We’re all to blame!

The sun sets.

SLEEPING BEAUTY PART III (Resimli versiyonunu izlemek için buraya tıklayın)

Many sad and lonely years passed by for the king and the queen. But as the princess’s sixteenth birthday was near, they began to feel happier because soon they would meet their beautiful daughter.

By the way, Maleficent was very angry because she had not found the princess. She was shouting at her servant:

Maleficent: Have you searched everywhere?

Servants: Yeah (=yes)

Maleficent: Have you searched towns, mountains, forests?

Servants: Yeah, we searched for her in every cradle.

Maleficent (surprised): Cradle?

She turns to her pet raven,

Maleficent: Did you hear that my pet? All these years, they’ve been looking for a baby! Ha ha ha ha.

Her servants, who don’t understand why she is laughing, join her laughter. But now she is very angry:

Maleficent: Fools! Idiots! Imbeciles!

The servants disappear. Now she turns to the raven again;

Maleficent: My pet, you are my last hope. Circle far and wide, search for a girl of

sixteen with hair of sunshine gold and lips red as the rose. Go, and do not fail.

Then the pet raven flies away.

***********

So, for sixteen years no one knew where the princess was. The three good fairies lived deep in the forest with the princess. They protected her from all dangers. They didn’t use magic. They lived like mortals. They brought up the princess. They called her Briar Rose. She didn’t know her real name. She didn’t know that she was a princess, either.

Now it was her sixteenth birthday. The three good fairies planned a party. They wanted to surprise the princess. While they were talking about the dress, Aurora walked in.

Aurora: What are you up to? (=what are you doing here?)

Fairies: Up to? Well. We want you to pick some berries.

Aurora: Berries?

Fairies: Yes, go and pick lots of berries.

They push her out of the house.

Flora: Don’t hurry.

Merryweather: Don’t go too far.

Flora: Don’t speak to strangers.

The fairies close the door and get back inside the cottage. They will make a beautiful dress for Aurora and a delicious birthday cake.

Merryweather: I’ll (=I will) get the magic wands.

Flora: No magic! If we use magic, Maleficent may find us. We will take no chances.

Now Fauna is making the cake and Flora and Merryweather are making the dress. But they are very clumsy. After a while, they understand that they can’t finish their work. So they decide to use their magic wands.

*************

Aurora is walking and singing in the forest. Birds sing with her and other animals walk with her. Philip (the prince) is riding his horse in the forest. He hears Aurora’s song. He rides towards her. Aurora is speaking to the animals.

Aurora: They still treat me like a child.

Animals: Who?

Aurora: Fauna, Flora and Merryweather. They never want me to meet anyone. But I fooled them.

Animals: Fooled them? How?

Aurora: I met someone. It’s a prince. He is tall and handsome. We walked together. We talked together. And then…

Animals: And then?

Aurora: And then I woke up. It was just (=only) a dream.

Aurora: Yes, it’s only in my dreams. But they say if you dream a thing more than once, it will come true. And I’ve seen him so many times!

Then the prince (Philip) finds her. She doesn’t want to talk to him because he is a stranger.

Philip: Don’t be afraid. We met before in a dream

Aurora: I must go.

Philip: When will I see you again?

Aurora: This evening. At the cottage.

******************

Now the fairies will use their magic wands.

Flora: Careful, Merryweather! Quick, lock the doors. Flora, you close the windows.

Then the wands start the work. Soon the room is cleaned, the cake is baked and the dress is ready. But Merryweather doesn’t like the color of the dress.

Merryweather: Oh no, not pink. Make it blue.

And she makes it blue with her wand. But Flora doesn’t like blue. She makes it pink again. Then the two fairies start a fight over the color of the dress. They make it blue and pink in turns. However, blazes of color go up through the chimney and Maleficent’s raven sees it. Suddenly the fairies hear Aurora singing. She is coming. They stop fighting and hide. Aurora enters. After Aurora, the raven appears at the door. It is watching. Aurora can’t see the fairies.

Aurora: Flora, Fauna, Merryweather! Where is everybody?

Then she sees the cake and the dress. The fairies suddenly come out.

Fairies: Surprise, surprise! Happy birthday!

Aurora: Oh you darlings, this is the happiest day of my life. Everything’s so wonderful, just wait till you meet him.

Fauna: Him?

Flora: You have met a stranger?

Aurora: He is not a stranger. We met before.

Merryweather: Where?

Aurora: In a dream.

Then she starts singing and dancing. The fairies look anxious.

Fauna: She is in love.

Flora: That’s terrible (=very bad)!

Aurora (surprised): Why? I am sixteen years old.

Fauna: But you are already betrothed (=engaged).

Aurora: Betrothed?

Merryweather: Yes. You were betrothed to a prince when you were born.

Aurora: A prince? But that is impossible. I am not a princess.

Fauna: You are.

Flora: You are Princess Aurora. Tonight, we’re taking you back to your father, King Stefan.

The raven hears this and flies off.

Aurora: But, but I can’t! He’s coming here tonight, I promised to meet him.

Flora: I’m sorry, child, but you must never see that young man again.

Aurora: Oh, no. I can’t believe it!

Aurora is very sad. She is crying. She runs upstairs to her room.
